N. M. Karamzin’s Literary Transfer

Karamzin’s translations as a cultural universe» (2020) is the result of many years comparative studies. Numerous articles on topic preceded this book, which covers period from 1783 to 1800. In beginning Karamzin had good knowledge French and German only so that he used numerous intermediaries in these languages acquaint Russian audience with world literature (ancient eastern poetry, dramas Shakespeare, Ossian etc.). Only final decade eighteenth century did begin draw texts English Italian for purposes. Among other things, review establishes some previously unknown sources translations. V. I. Simankov’s supplemental list pursues same objective.
